Did you know that a lot of companies are having a tough time right now with their young workers from Gen Z? A recent survey from Intelligent.com asked 966 business leaders about how they feel about hiring new graduates, and some surprising things came up. It turns out, many companies think that some young workers aren’t quite ready for their first jobs. In the survey, 6 out of 10 companies said they had to let go of at least one new worker from Gen Z this year. That’s a lot! Some hiring managers feel that recent graduates aren’t prepared for the real-world demands of the workplace. They mentioned things like having trouble managing their time, struggling with feedback, or not acting as professionally as they need to.
But, that doesn’t mean Gen Z can’t succeed. In fact, many businesses believe that with the right support, these young workers can do great things. Starting a new job can be a big change from school life. The survey found that some Gen Z workers may not be used to the fast-paced, less structured world of work. School is often more organized, and when things get more unpredictable at work, it can be tricky to keep up.
Some managers also say that Gen Z workers need to work on communication skills, handling feedback, and taking the initiative to solve problems on their own. But guess what? These are all things that can be learned with practice, starting now. Even though Gen Z is having some trouble, the survey shows that companies aren’t giving up on them. Many businesses are working hard to help these young workers succeed by offering more training and guidance. Things like learning office etiquette, getting better at managing time, and handling feedback are skills anyone can improve.
So, what does this mean for you? Well, it’s never too early to start working on things like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. The more you practice these skills now, the easier it will be when it’s your turn to step into the workplace! Even though some companies are hesitant about hiring new graduates, most still believe that Gen Z has a lot of potential. In fact, the survey showed that 84% of businesses still plan to hire young workers in the future. So, while there may be some bumps along the way, the future looks bright for Gen Z and for you, too, if you keep learning and growing!
